Udemy alternatives
An open marketplace where independent instructors publish self-paced video courses. Each course is its own product, chosen on ratings and reviews rather than against a single house standard.
Their own site: www.udemy.com — check fees and current intakes there, not here.
What Udemy is
- Format
- Self-paced video, bought per course, yours permanently once purchased.
- Subjects
- Almost any subject, at almost any level.
- What you commit
- None imposed. You watch it when you watch it.
- What you hold at the end
- A certificate of completion, with no external recognition attached.
Which of the two fits you
Choose Udemy if
You want the widest possible choice at the lowest price, you know exactly what you are looking for, and you are the kind of person who finishes things without a deadline.
Choose Alversity if
You are not that person — most of us are not — and what you need is a scheduled cohort, somebody to ask, and an assessment that tells you whether it landed.
We teach in live cohorts with assessments and a certificate you can verify publicly. Alversity is a learning platform, not a university or an accredited institution. A certificate records that you completed a course with us. Our catalogue is smaller than most of the names on this page, which is a reason to look at it before paying for anything rather than a reason to take our word for it.

How this page was written
This summarises what Udemy publicly says about itself, read in October 2026. No fees appear on it, because they change every intake and a stale figure is worse than none. No claims appear about teaching quality, placement or outcomes — theirs or ours — because neither of us can verify them from where you are sitting.
Programmes change and we may have got something wrong. If so, tell us and we will correct it.
